I left consulting to pursue Twigflo full-time
Why did I go full-time?
- I had the runway. I knew a bonus was going to hit my account in March of 2022 since June of 2021. I knew that by that time I was going to be mentally and financially prepared for this.
- I love our idea. It's new. It's needed. It's never been done before.
- I interviewed people. Unsuspecting to my solution, I interviewed 37 people to learn more about their problems. Project planning is absent. More importantly, it can be done better.
- I'm my own customer. I was a consultant for 5+ years. Processes are not in place to accomplish complex projects.
- I wasn't learning. The last few of years, I wasn't learning as I had been my first couple years in consulting. I went back to school part-time to fill that void but when that ended, I resorted to side projects. When that started to not be enough, I knew I needed a big change.
Time will tell if I went full-time too early. I'm 26 and eager to make an impact. No VC, family, or angel backing.
That's the real-world for a lot of us trying to make a positive difference.
About
I spent 6 years in consulting on complex projects, that were planned in spreadsheets. They'd go over budget and create stressful environments. We need to rethink our approach to planning and aligning.
