Finally, in August 2018, I decided to start offering premium features in Twitter Archive Eraser, while having a basic free Community edition for those who have a small number of tweets to delete or cannot offer a license.
This is in part to motivate me continuing developing new features and also maintaining the endless changes from Twitter when it comes to APIs and formats.
Twitter Archive Eraser grew in popularity and required constant maintenance, support for users. I did not mind that in the early years but eventually time gets scarce more and more...
Right after I was finishing university, I was going to interview with Microsoft and I thought that I don't want Twitter to be the permanent public record for my passing thoughts, jokes, and transient opinions.
I searched online for something that I can use to delete my old tweets but nothing really worked. The few ones that did had a Twitter API limit of ~3000 tweets.
Around the same time, Twitter started serving the archive of all the tweets for an account, so I made a quick app to scrape the archive and delete anything it has.
I thought this would be useful for others so I made it public source on github.
Fast forward 5 years later, Twitter Archive Eraser has helped people delete more than 3.2 Billion tweets!
