Here’s what actually worked.
The Problem I Noticed

Step 1: Build the Simplest Possible Version
I didn’t overbuild.

Step 2: SEO Over Launch Platforms
I skipped a heavy Product Hunt launch.
Instead I focused on:
Ranking for “twitter viewer”

Writing related blog posts
Getting listed in tool directories
Within weeks, traffic started compounding.
Step 3: Community Signals Matter
Something unexpected happened.
The tool was referenced by OSINT communities.
That was a turning point.

What Didn’t Work(The Time-Wasters)
I’ve learned that time is more valuable than any marketing budget for indie hackers.
The AI Directory: I tried submitting to several AI-related directories. Either being "ghosted" for months or told I had to wait in a ridiculous queue until next year. If your tool isn't purely AI-driven, don't waste time chasing these hype-filled directories. Focus on where your real users are.
The Guest Post & Newsletter Trap: I considered guest posting for major tech newsletters and platforms. I quickly realized the ROI is terrible for a solo dev. You spend two days writing and a week waiting for an editor, only to get a fraction of the traffic you’d get from one well-timed Reddit post or a professional shoutout.
Over-Optimizing Before Scaling: I spent too much time tweaking landing page micro-copy when I should have been building backlinks. In the early stage, utility beats aesthetics every time.
Blindly Following the Product Hunt Playbook: Trying to orchestrate a "perfect" launch day is a distraction. For niche tools like mine, consistent SEO and building in public create a compounding growth curve that far outlasts a 24-hour launch spike.
The Bottom Line: Consistency > Hype.

Friction Creates Opportunity: When a platform like X adds friction, users don't stop being curious, they just look for smarter alternatives.
Speed is a Feature: If you can build something simple, fast, and privacy-first, you don’t need to compete with giants. You just need to solve a clear, recurring pain point.
Ship, then Think: Act, act, act. Don't overthink your way into paralysis. Ship it, watch the data, and let the users tell you what happens next.
I didn’t expect one of my early side projects to gain this much traction so quickly.

Woke up to some insane numbers: 8,142 active users today.
The Strategy
As a dev in the game, I stopped focusing on "marketing" and started focusing on Authority. I overhauled my GitHub profile (DA 98) to anchor my core keywords and pushed hard on high-DA technical communities.
The Result
Google Search Console shows an avg. position of 6.8.
Over 6.3K impressions and 392 clicks in a single day.
What’s next? Fixing the last few 4xx crawl errors and scaling the SSR architecture to handle the 10K DAU push.

Value-First, Pitch-Last: I don't just dump links. I share "Build in Public" stories, like how I started as an indie hacker or my exact user acquisition tactics. When you provide genuine value and share your journey, the community naturally wants to support you.
Contextual Targeting: Precision is key. I strictly define my audience and find the subreddits where they live. I’ve been fortunate with mods so far, but that’s because I’m respectful of their rules and focus on being helpful rather than being a spammer.
The Ripple Effect: If your product is solid, "luck" follows. I’ve had community members organically showcase Twitter Web Viewer in their own reddit posts. This kind of organic visibility is worth 10x more than any paid ad.
