September 2021 Could not replicate success and get new partners

I had hoped that I could find more partners / content producers to use Ubacast. That did not happen. Even the 1st successes could not convince new comers.

Technically, solution is fine. Turns out that its hard to bring fans away from Youtube/Insta/Facebook and capture them yet on another platform.

I did quite some marketing, cold calling outbound efforts, with no success.

Seems like a failure and time to move on to another project.

Lessons learned:

  • Its good to have an anchor user. Which I had. I could iterate fast with him.
  • Initial traction does not mean "product market fit". I could not prove there is a market for my product.
  • Building a web app is fun, hard, you learn a lot of cool things... but, it's nothing without "product market fit"
  • I did put (as always) too much time on the tech/dev, rather than on the customer development ans discovery

The good:

  • I met business partners for my new project by reaching out on Linkedin for advise on the Ubacast market :-)
  • I continued building my Django Toolbox for the next MVPs

April 30, 2021 Got 500+ payments on my platform

The first partners on my platform managed to get some traction from their fans, and generated donations for the video streams. Generated thousands of € of revenue, and some small margin for myself.

That was quite encouraging to continue the model and try to replicate with more partners !

March 11, 2021 Got my first partner using the platform

I had been contacting all the French speaking stand up comedians that I could find, using Linkedin, Instagram, Facebook, emails. About 300 candidates.

I eventually connected with an Artist I actually liked a lot. I ended up developing his website, that was utilizing Ubacast infrastructure as a backend. I saw this as a potential Pivot for my product. Like a white labelling solution.

Here is the website:

January 2021 MVP up and running

Got the 1st version of my product up and running, after 3 months of coding. This was based on an original concept suggested by a friend in the Video production business.

I am using the following stack:

  • python/django
  • GCP cloud run
  • GCP cloud storage
  • GCP cloud SQL
