Undersend
User understanding and messaging for apps
We haven't started marketing yet - we are working on landing page content improvements. In the meantime, we sent several tweets and wrote a little on IH about Undersend. I saw the topic "Tool for email automation" - it's what we do. I replied with a short description of Undersend, and we got the first active user.
The app is done ๐ Now with Undersend, you can:
- track your users, save their events and properties ๐ต๏ธ
- create email campaigns based on certain conditions and with a specific goal ๐ฎ
- adding users to campaigns based on their properties and events ๐
- create emails with UI editor โจ๏ธ
- add multiple emails to the campaign and defined when to send each of them ๐ง
- see a list of your users with properties ๐ฅ
- see activities of each of your user ๐ค
- see basic analytics about your campaigns and emails ๐
We prepared documentation and created email campaigns for Undersend using Undersend itself. It's cool when you can use your app for yourself ๐
We have more features in the pipeline, like users segmentation, detailed analytics, and more, but the core features are ready. Now it's time to find the first users.

We created a landing page with a description of our idea and collecting emails form. We want to validate the content and appearance of the landing page. We are going to promote it on Twitter and Indie Hackers. When we finish the MVP, we will work more on marketing.

With @exdeve, we were co-owners at two companies that sell web-based products. At both of them, we were using email marketing based on users' activities to increase engagement and conversion rates. The idea works. But we haven't found a perfect tool to do it.
At the first company (2017-2018), we were using Intercom. It's a great tool, but it's so expensive. It's not only about email campaigns. It has more features like chat, knowledgebase, and more. We were a small company, and Intercom wasn't affordable for us. We tried to find any alternatives. We have switched to Maily Herald. It's an open-source rails gem, but it's not maintained, so it was hard to get it working. We thought about building our app with email campaigns based on users' activities for the first time at that time. But we got the offer to join the exciting company as co-owners, so we have abandoned the idea of building the app to pursue another venture.
At the second company(2018-2020), we also needed email campaigns' based on users' activities. We had many users, so the Intercom wasn't affordable for us. We decided to add email campaigns as a feature to our app. It wasn't a perfect solution. It wasn't a core feature of our app, so we wanted to get it done as soon as possible. We didnโt have any UI editor for campaigns and emails. We have only basic stats (at another tool) about campaigns. It was hard to maintain; there was a lot of background processing. From time to time, it stopped working and we had to fix it. So, we havenโt improved campaigns' conditions or emails' content for almost 3 years because it wasnโt easy.
In May 2020, we decided to leave the company and started our project. In the beginning, we haven't any idea what project we want to do. We made a filemove.io, changepipe.com, and we were working on reclips.io but still, we were looking for a more exciting idea for us. We were looking for problems worth solving from our past.
At august 2020 we recalled the pain of sending email campaigns based on users' activities. We knew the problem, we had a unique idea of resolving it, and had the knowledge of mechanics behind similar successful products. After a few days of thinking about it and researching competitors, we decided to do it. And here we are!

We were using email campaigns based on users' activities. We know that it works perfectly for SASS - it increases users' engagement and conversation rate. But we didn't find the perfect tool for it. We want to do one.
