October 8, 2022 The launch!

As the app has to be viewable by developers or designers at work and to avoid getting this url blocked by the company network restrictions, I decided to host it on Github Pages itself. https://unmusic.github.io.

Then I showcased this project on Reddit and launched on ProductHunt on same day. I got good number of views from both websites. Got 25 upvotes on ProductHunt and 50+ upvotes on Reddit on day 1. Along with few encouraging comments as well :)

Almost 70 GB of bandwidth consumed on the day 1 itself. I didn't expect it, it really felt great after a month of hustling for this side project :)

Have to figure out, how to increase the monthly active users further?

September 2022 Design and Branding Phase

Started looking for design inspirations on Dribbble and picked few mockups. Grabbed the colour palette from one of the mockup and layout inspiration from one of the mockup. Mixed both and came up the final design. I initially chosen the brand name as "ZenNoise", but after a week I come up with a word "UnMusic" after inspired by undraw.co ;) UnMusic sounded better than ZenNoise as well!

September 14, 2022 MVP in a Week

First I built a music player in Vanilla JS and passed in an array tracks to be listened. It worked roughly. But maintaining the current tracks, current playlist, player timeline and all was not so smooth/easier in Vanilla JS. So i migrated the app in React JS framework, it was breezy easy to build major functionalities now.

September 5, 2022 Hitch moment

After the offices are reopened, WFH were no more a regular thing. I started to go office daily. But each day, it's a struggle to get in the flow for productivity in-between the Code Reviews, Production Bug Support, Meetings and all.

I use music to noise-cancel my office environment. But I was not comfortable using Spotify, Youtube Music or Amazon Music in front of my colleagues. I wanted simple musics to boost my focus, but all of them hooked me to use them more.

I downloaded few good musics in my work machines and heard them for few days. Later, i moved it cloud and listened. Then I got an idea like, what if I can make it as web player for developers and creatives without any ads.

That's it, then I had few sleepless nights to think about making the MVP :)
