VacationCounts
Track your vacation days to take more time off to travel
After managing the beta release of VacationCounts for several months and gathering feedback from users (including fixing minor bugs), developed and released the Time Off Tracking feature. This major addition was included in version 1.0, the first official release of the web app. Now users can both organize their past vacation memories and plan how they are going to take their annual vacation leave. Tracking paid time off and company holiday usage helps us all to travel more and gain a healthy work-life balance.
The first public release of VacationCounts with features to make a list of all your past vacations is now live. It took an incredible effort to develop this web app and test it for a beta release, but that date is here. I'm so proud of this personal accomplishment. The beta version includes secure Google login with Firebase hosting, a vacation life list that can be sorted and filtered with all your trip details, a work-life-vacation balance dashboard view, and a travel destination inspiration page. The product will stay in beta release until enough testing and feedback is gathered to justify a production quality release.

The MVP design document for VacationCounts - the web app - completed and the new product development has commenced! This means that the mission statement and required set of features have been put down on paper so the project planning process can begin. The user interface design and software development plan is next. The focus of Meliovation will be on developing a web app that supports the VacationCounts "take more time off" philosophy to help everyone improve their work-life-vacation balance.

After coding on the Microsoft .NET platform for many years during my career, I am finally transitioning to open source development with Angular. After much analysis selected Angular as the platform to code my first VacationCounts app in TypeScript. The plan is to hook up with Google's Firebase (Firestore) as the document database and scalable hosting backend.
The Angular and Firebase courses on Udemy are essential learning that I'm just getting started with. I'm excited to embark on a new, challenging, but fun software development platform.
