April 6, 2026 I built a savings app, got users… and then lost them all. Here’s what I learned.

It’s focused on helping people save money smarter—not just tracking expenses, but actually giving insights and guidance (like AI-driven suggestions and simple visual insights).

I recently managed to get around ~600 users through organic efforts (Instagram, small promotions, etc.), which felt like a big win initially.

But here’s the reality:
A lot of users signed up… and then stopped using it.

That’s been the hardest part.

From what I’ve observed:

  • People like the idea of saving money

  • They sign up with good intentions

  • But they don’t stick unless the value is immediate and obvious

I’ve been working on improving this by adding:

  • Insight cards → quick, visual understanding of spending

  • AI Coach → personalized suggestions to help users act, not just track

  • Better onboarding to show value faster

Now I’m trying to figure out:
👉 How do you actually retain users in a finance app?
👉 What makes someone come back daily/weekly?
👉 Is it automation, habit-building, or something else?

If you’ve built or used apps in this space, I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

Happy to share more details if helpful—and open to feedback (even brutal honesty).
