August 7, 2026 Built a free browser drum sequencer with genre-aware beat generation (House/Hip-Hop/Trap)

Wanted a way to sketch drum ideas before committing to a full DAW session, so I built this over a few days: a step sequencer that runs entirely in the browser, no account, no install.

What it does:

  • 16-step grid, real drum samples (no sythns, used a free CC0 kit from 99Sounds)

  • Hit "Generate" and it builds a genre-correct pattern for House, Hip-Hop, or Trap (kick/snare placement follows actual genre conventions (four-on-the-floor for house, halftime snare for trap, etc.), not random noise)

  • Each hit has its own velocity, so patterns don't sound robotically uniform, especially on hihat rolls

  • Export straight to MIDI, drag it into whatever DAW you actually produce in

  • Everything's client-side

Stack: Next.js + Tailwind + Tone.js, built with v0, zero backend infra. Genuinely a $0-budget build end to end.

Why I made it: I wanted the "does this beat idea even work" step to happen before opening a heavy DAW, not during. Most sequencers online are either too simple (random step toggling, no genre logic) or gated behind a paid DAW.

What's next: dark mode is coming, and I'm considering paid expansion packs (more patterns/genres) down the line if there's actual interest ,but wanted to get real feedback before building further.

Try it here:https://vermony.vercel.app/

Would love to know: does the genre-generation actually feel authentic to people who produce in these styles? That's the part I'm least sure about.

Good work. Sounds realistic, clean. Love the multi-voice selector for each drum.
