Anniversary - first paying customer

I think it is good to look back and see how far you have come.

1 year ago we had just spent 7 months building an MVP that should have took 2 months.

We was struggling to get anyone to use it for free let alone a paying customer.

We had an idea to create a free tool for SaaS landing page inspiration https://saaspages.xyz/ as we had the problem ourselves when creating blocks and templates for the website builder.

It did amazing on Product Hunt and got 10,000+ visitors.

Out of that we converted 1 to a paying customer of Versoly. 0.01% conversion rate, not bad.

We have grown a lot bigger and have had over 5000 people try our website builder and create a site.

Congratz for surviving the first year!

I regularly see your comments/posts, it's good you stay active here to help others 👍

Yeah IHs has helped me a lot. Learnt so much and avoided a ton of mistakes.

Nice job! Out of curiosity, how many paying customers do you have now?

    1. 1

We haven't made paying customers public, we have shared that 5000+ customers have used us to build a website.

Lots of folks who started out as open startups hid it after reaching a certain level and we want to be consistent.

      1. 2

Congrats on the success. Why do they hide it? Also, what do you want to be consistent with? Not to tell you what to do but are you stopping it bc everyone else stops it or because you wanted to stop.

I always try to weigh the pros and cons.

Not many advantages at the moment for being an open startup.

Once folks know your MRR they treat you differently and expect certain things is the gist of what I understood.

Or you get clones that copy everything you do and that just adds stress for no reason.

Congratulations - it’s been great seeing you consistently shipping and sticking it out longer than most!

      Thanks @Ramy

Maybe some sort of survivorship bias, but nearly all the folks who take feedback and have been around for 2 years are doing well.

However the majority normally quit way to early (post on IHs for 2 week to 2 months and then disappear).

A small minority just don't listen to advice and waste a ton of time.

Thanks for sharing, you're not alone in that kind of journey that takes longer than expected :)

Even when planned for, it takes longer than that.

I'm use to it as a developer :)

    awesome! congrats!
    Are you profitable?
I'm an aspiring customer :) need time to sit down and make the website though :)

      Thanks!

Yes but barely, we're growing fast so in a few months life will be nice :)

    Woohoo!
    Congratulations! 🙌

    Congratulations!

This is a crowned space and you kept delivering and focusing on building a great product.

Looking forward to see how Versoly evolves!

One of the most crowded spaces, just got told by a Russian founder of 3 large website builders that exist only in Russia.

Congrats! the saaspages.xyz is a great idea :D

    Keep up the good work

Congrats man. Sounds like your tackling the “SaaS slow ramp of death” like a champ! I’m really enjoying your product so far. Keep at it, and you’ll be the size of square space.

    1. 2

Pretty much. Hoping for a big boost (affiliate, PR etc). But planned for just the slow ramp.

Inspiring man. Thanks for sharing. I’ve retuned my brain this year to not give up too early. Focusing more on shipping early and often and for long term. I guess each “ship” is like one step towards the goal which could take hundreds of thousands of steps.

Good job. It’s a marathon not a sprint.
