Travel App - explore new places, activities and things to do
While building a simple travel app to help users explore new places, I discovered a potential revenue stream through the sale of tips (advice) within the app. Early on, a user purchased a tip, indicating a willingness among avid travelers to pay for additional insights and experiences. In addition to tips, the app also generates revenue through ads. While the revenue may be small at first, it provides a foundation for future growth and development. By understanding the needs and desires of its users, the app has the potential to become a valuable resource for travelers seeking unique and authentic experiences.
Launching an app can be a daunting task, especially without established connections or networks. In my experience, the key to building an app's user base is to start small and focus on reaching out to potential users through various channels. Instead of a big launch, I began by sharing my app on underground platforms and reaching out to people directly to try it. From there, I leveraged platforms such as Hacker News, Product Hunt, subreddits, and Google search to gain additional visibility. By consistently launching on different platforms and keeping the momentum going, I was able to steadily grow my app's user base. Whether launching daily or weekly, the key is to stay consistent and persistent in your efforts to attract users.

Monetizing a travel app is essential for long-term success. As I built my app, I quickly learned the importance of generating revenue from the beginning. While my revenue is currently limited, I am actively exploring strategies such as subscriptions, ads, and in-app purchases to scale and sustain my app. By focusing on these monetization strategies, I hope to provide users with even more valuable experiences while ensuring the future of the app.

Building a successful travel app takes time and effort. Unlike many who build an app in a matter of weeks, I took the time to understand marketing, sales, and scaling by building various internet apps and websites. It wasn't until I traveled to Brazil and experienced local hangouts that I realized the need for an app that helps travelers explore new cities. The first version of the app was designed for a small Brazilian city, and has since grown to provide users with a range of activities and experiences. Building features is just the beginning - finding and retaining users is the real challenge.

After losing my job, I didn't let self-pity take over. Instead, I explored Brazil, Australia, and Thailand, discovering the joy of connecting with locals and finding off-the-beaten-path hangouts. But I realized there was no reliable way to share this information, so I built a travel app for fellow adventurers.
The app is a one-stop-shop for accommodations, transportation, and a range of activities. It's free, but users can pay for enhanced experiences. As I continue to improve it, I welcome feedback to help more people have amazing travel experiences.
Join me on my journey from job loss to successful app creator, and start your own adventure today.
