Vikunja
The open-source to-do app to organize your life.
Vikunja is now using Vikunja to manage all tasks for the Vikunja development! To be able to do this, I first added link-sharable lists to Vikunja itself and then wrote a custom migrator to import all tasks from the markdown file I kept before into Vikunja.
Vikunja is now able to let you attach files to tasks to have all files needed to complete one task in a central place.
A task attachment can be anything you need: An image, a powerpoint-presentation, a zip archive... The only limit is the (configurable) maximum file size.

It is now possible to create relations between multiple tasks, even if they're not on the same list!
This makes it easier to see tasks depending on others, to get an easy glimpse of what needs to be done in which order and which tasks may be blocking others from getting done.

Simple and easy sharing of lists with public links is ready!
It is now possible to share a list with a world-readable link with the same permissions as already existing sharing with teams and users. This allows third-parties to view a list without the need to create an account on Vikunja.
Next steps: Add the possibility to guard a shared list with an extra password.

The basic functionality of VIkunja, like adding tasks to a list, marking it "done", setting a due date etc. are working! Even sharing with users or teams works.
The next steps will be to add more features like sharable lists, labels, multiple assignees and task attachments.

I started working on Vikunja while on a train, traveling somewhere. I had this idea of a self-hosted to-do application in my had for some time, and during this ride some time to kill, so I gave it a shot. All development is happening in the open from day one.

After using wunderlist for quite some time, I wanted more features, like list sharing with link and without sign-ups and grouping multiple lists together.
Also self-hosting, open-source and not depending on other people's buisiness model matters to me.

Initially I was using wunderlist a lot. I liked the general idea of it, its simplicity, and that it "just worked". I started building Vikunja as a side project to get the missing features I wanted and to self-host it.
