It seems everyone is joining the AI coding craze as it is becoming less embarrassing to admit that you are using AI in software engineering. The wave caught me too when my ambitions were bigger than the time I had, so I opted to use Cursor AI. Thanks, peer pressure.

I am building my third startup, ViralMarketer, to help small businesses automate their social media marketing flywheel, ensuring they have quality content at the click of a mouse. If I were to code all this and deliver a quality product, I would have to hire an engineer, and I do not have that kind of cash. But AI came to the rescue.

Just as I thought I had gained freedom, the AI bug began to slow down my development. For some reason, these machines are not 100% efficient as they are sold to us. Well, they aren't supposed to be. Your star engineer will still spend more time debugging, so there isn't much of a difference.

However, if you are a lazy coder relying on AI, then prepare for hours of debugging. At one point, the AI could not see that it had added an extra line that made my app not work the way it should. I spent a whole day querying the AI, sometimes angry, sometimes begging. (I hope it doesn't record all of these interactions for eternity).

But I had to look through the code manually because the AI would insist it had corrected the problem but could not see the extra line of code that needed to be deleted. In about 20 minutes, I perused the codebase and found the error.

To cut a long story short, AI will still make mistakes, and you, as the prompter, still need to know what the code says and where the problem might be.

All these AI tools are great, but skills will still be needed to quickly harness the power of artificial intelligence in creating powerful, valuable SaaS.
