After raising our prices, adding more features and improving free-to-paid conversion, we're now ramen profitable!
About 75k messages have been sent using Vocal so far and we're now expanding to offer more voice related services (such as voice forms where customers can send you voice messages)
While we made much more money selling Lifetime deals, we've just crossed $130 in monthly recurring revenue ($130*12 = $1500 ARR) .
With our server + database + storage costs at $30/month, we're making money!
Besides the financial validation, retention is also pretty high (+20% after a month) and customers are happy and asking for more. Super excited to keep growing this!

Nathan congratulations, this is very exciting. How did you find your first 10 customers? Please explain.
We launched on the AppSumo marketplace (https://appsumo.com/products/marketplace-vocal/) and many people bought the offer! We're now profitable as long as the revenue through AppSumo stays constant. Our total number of users has also grown to 2k, in part thanks to new users signing up via AppSumo and referring other users.
UPDATE: Now at $5K already!

Our third paying customer subscribed to our annual plan today, increasing our total revenue for Vocal by 40$ to a total of 120$!
Super pumped to pass this symbolic sum! In total, our chrome extension has now been downloaded 1'000 times as well, which is a pretty symbolic number!
Just a few weeks after launching properly, we've started to do some serious marketing (sharing our new product among our existing user base - we have been building another product for years!) and today, a new user purchased our annual subscription for 39$!
This is massive validation and really confirms my belief that we're on the right path.
It's amazing how different the experience of building this product is compared to the personal CRM we've been struggling to build for years:
- Building Vocal took weeks, not years
- Scalability and server costs are not a problem with Vocal, most of it is client-side
- Vocal grows organically as every user is sharing the product
Our other product (nat.app) is currently at 500$ MRR, let's see how long it takes before vocal.email takes over!
We've just launched the new version of our chrome extension with a much better UI and analytics. We are amazed to find out that ~30 people use our app on a daily basis!
Lesson:
- Always add some basic analytics to your side-products, an opportunity might be hiding
