Crowdsourced hiring for women in tech
Last year I moved to Singapore and embarked on a long job hunt.
I had a strong CV but was getting no where so I finally reached out to some friends in HR and did some rabbit-hole-research to understand what was going on.
Turns out 80% of applications through typical job sites only account for 20% of hires. On the flip side, about 75% of actual hires come from other channels like personal networks, recruiters and internal referrals. Why is this system so broken?!
I was barking up the wrong tree. Along with the other 1000 people applying for every role...
After switching my approach to building my network (sounds obvious!) my success rate was significantly stronger and my CV was finally in the hands of people that mattered.
My journey sparked a question in my mind... why aren't these informal networks productised in a better way and for a better purpose?
Many requests on LinkedIn read something like this... "looking for X, does anyone know anyone who would be right for this role?"... and some of these LinkedIn posts overtly ask for female candidates which is great, but highlights a bigger issue.
And this is where Vouchli was born.
