We are West Coast Sports
The Only Sports Newsletter Dedicated to The West Coast
After showing my MVP to a few close friends they gave me great feedback. They said this was something they needed. They loved the overlook. They loved the tone. They loved the jobs. It gave them energy. So I decided to continue publishing.
Why Substack?
They say this is the platform for people who are passionate about a topic and I'm passionate about sports in the Pacific Time zone. The goal is to build an email list, learn about curating a newsletter and test the viability of this project as I continue to develop marketing and branding around it. I also hope to find super fans and collaborators.
What took me so long? I was covering Lakers games, contributing columns to ClutchPoints and FullPressCoverage as well as hosting and producing a podcast touchdownsandtangents.com. All of that in hopes of raising my profile. I was also working and trying to be a role model to my teenage brothers and sister.
All the while planning my newsletter in the back of my head. Reading all the expert posts and playing with strategy worksheets in the hopes of one day launching my letter.
However, my GMA died of COVID and that really gave me a sense of urgency to make it happen today. I also wanted to apply for another accelerator.

Earned a fellowship with AAJA and developed an initial deck for my idea. My biggest roadblock was defining exactly what West Coast Sports is, what the audience is and how the tone will be different. A lot of feedback asked how this is different from the Athletic and do I have time to do this. Some suggested I keep working on raising my profile or focus on local sports.

About
I am tired of scrolling through sports news from Chicago, Boston or New York on my favorite sports sites. That's why I create sports content for fans and professionals who work in the Pacific Standard Time zone.
