Just launched webkit.free — a collection of free online tools for file conversion and compression that process everything locally in your browser.
The problem I was solving:
Every time I needed to convert a HEIC to JPG or compress a video, I had to upload my files to some random website. That always felt wrong — especially for personal photos or sensitive documents. Where do those files go? Who has access?
The solution:
All processing happens client-side using WebAssembly and browser APIs. Your files never leave your device. No uploads, no servers touching your data, no accounts required.
Current tools:
• Image compression & conversion (HEIC → JPG, PNG ↔ JPG, WebP)
• Video compression (coming soon)
• PDF tools (merge, compress, e-sign)
• Developer utilities (JSON formatter, Base64, regex tester)
Tech stack:
• Next.js 16 + React 19
• WebAssembly for heavy lifting
• Tailwind v4
• All client-side processing
What's next:
• More video tools
• Platform presets (auto-compress for Discord/WhatsApp file limits)
• Mobile app
