I made a basic sheets2site alternative, cos I always find myself having list of resources to share with my contacts.

It's a simple website generator with Google Sheets as the entire Content Management System. No separate accounts nor dashboards - and most importantly, no cost (for now!).

Please do help me to try it out! You'll get yourself a free WebSheets page while you're at it.

Particularly interested to know:

1. How easy was it for you to understand how to use it?, and
2. Do you think I should pursue this and eventually monetise it?

Found a way to make WebSheets usable by non-devs! Users can now generate their own sites with just some clicks and simple data entry in Google Sheets.

This would allow anyone to create listing websites without coding nor designing! Just input your data, choose the template, and you'll have the website generated for you according to your branding. #nocode #nodesign

Gotta stop myself from adding to the codebase for now, or it'll never end.

Gonna do a closed beta for now to see if there's some rough edges I missed out that I can iron out before the launch.

Planning to release the beta version to the world latest by mid july. So need to prepare the landing page to explain WebSheets well, along with the marketing materials.

Had a self-hackathon session and managed to get the barebones Alpha version up! Happy with it.

Should be easy enough for me to generate new static listing microsites based on this template!

Only "issue" is that this is done in the form of a Gatsby template. This means that only developers who are used to the process of development would be comfortable enough to use this template to generate new sites from it.

Happy enough for this 1st development milestone, but will have to think of a way to make this non-dev friendly... 🤔

On this day, I thought of the idea of WebSheets.

I've been having tons of ideas on building static microsites that simply list useful information for the public.

E.g. Available covid19 grants we can benefit from, Good causes we can sponsor, Free tech courses we can take up, home-based busineses we can support, and the list goes on.

As such, I thought rather than creating them each at a time, it might be great if there's a simple way for me simply input the data and generate a site with various templates to choose from.

Hence WebSheets was born. The idea is to simply just list all the data on a tab in Google sheets, and perhaps another tab to input site information and select templates from.

Let's see how this goes!
