I'm excited to share something we built to solve a problem that’s plagued me for years: speed test tools that give you a score but not the solution.

Every founder, developer, and marketer knows how crucial site speed is for SEO (hello, Core Web Vitals) and conversions. But when you get a 65/100, where do you even begin? We decided to stop chasing arbitrary scores and build a free tool that focuses entirely on actionable results.

The Hostcry Difference: Video and the Fixes

Our tool, the Hostcry Website Speed Test, is a professional-grade alternative to GTmetrix or WebPageTest, and it's 100% free.

But here are the two things we believe make it truly valuable to an indie hacker:

This immediately makes render-blocking resources (like that huge third-party script or unoptimized banner image) impossible to ignore. It turns an abstract problem into a visible, immediate bottleneck.

2. ✅ Prioritized, Actionable Recommendations: We don't just say "Optimize Images." We deliver a prioritized checklist of fixes with specific guidance on issues like TTFB, LCP, and CSS/JS minification. It’s a roadmap you can implement right away.

What We Learned Building This

The hardest part wasn't the technical analysis; it was the translation. Turning complex metrics like Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) and Time to First Byte (TTFB) into simple, human-readable advice took the most iterations. We focused on making the report something a founder could understand and confidently share with a contractor or team member.
