October 5, 2020 First birthday, V2 launched!

https://webwide.io/threads/webwide-turns-1-whats-new-and-whats-next.1129/

It's Webwide's first birthday! Despite the software license and domain renewals, a reason to celebrate. 🥳

Keep your eyes peeled over the following couple of weeks for a number of celebrations including some free merchandise and credits giveaways. Get yourself started with credits code 'happybirthdaywebwide'.

In one year out of 1,722 approved users, the 431 that contributed posted 6,679 messages in 1,044 discussions. You've been busy! You can click 'View Credits' in the footer to see a showcase of our contributing members.

It is evident that there is still demand for a more classic internet forum experience and in addition to some of the awesome updates that have happened over the past 12 months, our latest "version 2" update brings that bang up to date with a whole host of new features including...

New post types
Article post type with cross-posting encouraged
StackOverflow style question post type
Reddit style voting categories
Additional profile customisation & security options
Profile banners
Authenticator app 2FA
Performance improvements
Large number of bug fixes
Post editor improvements
New PWA
A new forum style
...and more

These changes and our first birthday mark a renewed push for the platform to welcome more to our already lovely core community and welcome back some of our previously active friends.
Development priorities will continue to be community-led and even more so now with the introduction of suggestion voting in our suggestions forum.

    Congrats!

Have you started to notice search traffic slowly increasing? This was prob. one of the main reasons why you've chosen to go the self-hosted-forum-software route vs. a Slack channel

May 28, 2020 Funded our first batch of 25 trees 🌳

Webwide users earn credits for normal activity around the site and have funded our first round of 25 tree plantings. Aiming for 200 at the moment!

Funding tree plantings via Offset Earth. Offset Earth fund Eden Reforestation Projects, particularly in Madagascar where the project creates jobs for local people planting and protecting forests in an attempt to recover from their extreme (over 90% of their rainforests) deforestation.

The Mangrove trees being planted capture up to four times as much carbon per acre than tropical rainforests. Three quarters of tropical fish rely on their root systems for nurseries and shelter.

Planting trees captures CO2 from the atmosphere and is thought to be the most effective defence against global warming.

Congratulations Adam, your growth has been really impressive. I have a couple of community ideas I'dlike to start, do you have any tips on how to grow so quickly from launch?

Webwide is an excellent way to learn how to write, but it's not the best way to learn how to write well. If you want to write well, you should practice writing. Practice makes perfect. If you want to be good at something, then practice doing it until it becomes second nature. I am a big fan of the idea of Webwide. Try this Cisco Meraki MS Series San Francisco for more ideas .I think it is a great opportunity to build on the success of Facebook and Twitter. There are already 2,000 posts, and if you look at the stats, the average post gets around 40 comments and is liked by over 6% of the people who saw it. We are only getting started here!
