Weekly Filet
Top recommendations on what to read, watch, listen to.
I launched an ad program to support the free version of my newsletter in March 2022. Less than 3 months in, I've reached a total ad revenue of $2500. More importantly, a lot of the companies that booked ads have come back to book more, so these ads really seem to work.
I've just launched a new feature that allows people to immerse themselves in a particular topic, with some of the best links from around the web, handpicked.
I'm kicking this off with the collection "Making Sense of the Climate Crisis". I'm planning to add at least two more collections in the coming weeks and take it from there depending on audience feedback.

I use Stripe Climate to automatically contribute 10% of all revenue generated by the Weekly Filet newsletter to carbon removal. Today, the sum of all contributions has reached $1000.
It's just a little milestone. Still makes me happy. And I sure hope to be able to contribute a lot more in the future.
If you're using Stripe, joining the effort is as simple as a few clicks. And it's up to you to decide what percentage of your revenue you'd like to contribute (from 1% to 10%).

I've been collecting and sharing the best links from all around the web since 2011. I've now surpassed 2000 recommendations, all ready to explore in the archive (with a special serendipity time machine: https://weeklyfilet.com/surprise/).
To celebrate the milestone, and to take a little walk down memory lane, I shared some of my all-time-favourites in a Twitter thread. Enjoy!

Substack had served me well in the beginnings of going paid with my newsletter. However, after taking a closer look at alternatives, I quickly settled on Ghost for the best new home to my newsletter. Why? In short: incentives, product, flexibility, community, cost. I wrote a thread with more details.

Shortly after turning on memberships I reached this first milestone of 100 paying members. Over the years, I had built an audience of loyals, some of which had been reading the newsletter since the beginning in 2011. I had hoped some of them would be willing to support it with an annual membership. Was still great to see it happen.

Started the newsletter in 2011 because I love trawling the web for hidden gems. Started treating it as an actual product on 2021 with the aim of establishing it as a secondary income stream.

what kind of ad program did you launch? Google AdWords?
