June 7, 2022 Earned my first dollars 🥳

Nice! Right after launching the big feature, someone subscribed to a paid plan.

This is an amazing feeling, but most work still lays ahead. This person is someone I had talked about Weightless before, and they knew about this upcoming feature so it's not like I have found a distribution channel.

Still, "celebrate small wins" they say, so that's what I will do!

June 6, 2022 A major update: Weightless can now send email 💫

After having used Weightless for a few of my other projects, it became clear that I am not getting enough value to justify paying for it.

Neither will others. My paid plan starts at 50 subscribers, and that's probably a point where my users will be thinking about how to mass-email their audience as it's becoming unsustainable to email them one by one.

And instead of paying me, why not move to a platform that does both: email address collection and email message delivery?

That's why Weightless is now a full email service, that collects addresses and sends email. Although, it does both in the most minimalist ways possible.

February 9, 2022 Came up with project idea

As most other founders, I always have tons of ideas.

And as a developer, I love building static websites.

If we consider a landing page + a waitlist a decent way to validate an idea, then I got a problem: static websites, unlike websites built with website builders do not get an email sign up form out of box as there's no server.

There are solutions to this problem: use something like Mailchimp or ConvertKit. But these are not my kind of a solution. I don't know which email service I will go eventually, and I don't want to decide now. I want something fast!

There are more developer-friendly solutions as well: use something like Formspree or Netlify Forms. While they seem better, there's one thing I don't like - these services send form submissions one by one, meaning if I collect 100 email addresses, I will have to dig into 100 messages to grab all the addresses I want to email about my product launch.

Enter Weightless: like Formspree, it's a developer-friendly tool to process your form submissions. But where it excels for this use case is how it delivers the collected addresses: each time someone signs up, Weightless emails you your entire mailing list 🎉

Weightless is the answer to the ever-growing complexity email sending has become. It doesn't do much, but it does enough: Lets you collect email addresses and lets you send email to those addresses ✌️
