WhereToWatch

Hey Indie Hackers 👋

I'm a student, and an anime fan in India, and every time a new season drops — Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren, whatever's hot — I waste 10-20 minutes Googling "where to watch [anime] legally in India".

The reality sucks:

• Crunchyroll has the best simulcasts but region-locks some stuff.

• Netflix grabs big exclusives but skips seasonal drops.

• HIDIVE, Prime, Hulu — they all have random pieces.

• Free tiers exist, but dubs/subs/availability change weekly.

Pirate sites? Easy, but they hurt creators + malware risk. I just want to support the industry without the hassle.

So I scratched my own itch: built WhereToWatch – a free, no-signup tool.

What it does right now (MVP stage):

• Search any anime title

• Instantly shows every legal platform it's on (Crunchyroll, Netflix, HIDIVE, Prime, etc.)

• Free vs paid, dub/sub options, direct links, basic pricing & region notes

• Clean UI, mobile-friendly, updated manually for new releases/simulcasts

Tech stack (super scrappy):

• Frontend: NextJS + Tailwind (deployed on Vercel – free & instant)

• Data: Manual JSON updates for now (planning API integration later)

• No backend yet – pure client-side for speed

Zero revenue, zero marketing budget, but got 4 users in the first 3 weeks of launch. Just a project to solve my daily frustration.

Future ideas (if there's interest): personalized watchlists, filler episode guides, AI recommendations, community reports for updates.

Would love your honest feedback, roast, or suggestions:

• Does this solve a real pain for you (or someone you know)?

• What features would make you use it weekly?

• Any bugs/UX issues on first glance?

• Indie anime fans here? Drop your current watch!

Thanks for reading – first real launch post, be gentle! 😅

Looking forward to your thoughts 🚀
