July 25, 2019 Over 2k app units downloaded

Previously only had 14 app units installed on Android. Tried running an app store description experiment on the Play Store as well as a one-week free download promotion (7/21-7/28). Also opened up the Play Store to multiple countries beyond the main 11 countries. Russia accounts for the largest single-country downloads on Android. Currently, with only 50% of the promotional window over, have 2.26k downloads just from Android.

July 20, 2019 Over 100 app units downloaded!

Current breakdown is 129 on iOS and 14 on Android. Surprisingly, 100 of the app units are from China mainland. Starting on 7/12, iOS app store impressions are averaging 600k per day and product page views are at 6k per day, all for China mainland. 80% of the units in China are found through browsing.

The keywords I used for the Chinese app page clearly are pulling in way more impressions/page views than the other languages. Will need to try out different keywords for the other app stores!

July 7, 2019 Created IndieHackers page

Inspired by the site's focus on indie developers sharing their story, I decided to also include progress for WorldAnimals here. I'd love to share experiences and tips with anyone who is interested. You can contact me at hello@vivqu.com.

July 4, 2019 Launched on iOS & Android!

Started promoting WorldAnimals on ProductHunt and various subreddits focused on language learning. Shared on Facebook and Twitter. Created 50 promo codes to be shared with friends and family, so hopefully the app spreads through word of mouth as well.

June 10, 2019 Finished MVP

Built the basic functionality of the app. Now it's time to work on design polish, build the launch page, and take screenshots for the App Store and Play Store! Since the art is such an important part of the experience, I want to make sure all the promo material is also high quality.

May 9, 2019 Inspiration in Japanese Class

We learned animal sounds in Japanese class today. The class went around the room and shared what the animals sounded like in our native languages. There were students from so many different places: America (like me), Norway, China, Taiwan, Thailand, the Phillipines and more. It was one of the most fun times in class that it got me thinking: how can I share this language learning experience with others?

About

I took Japanese lessons in Tokyo for 8 months. One day in class we learned animal sounds, and us students from around the world shared what animals sound like in our own languages. It was one of my favorite experiences!
