June 21, 2022 Release 0.0.8

We are pleased to announce the newest release of Worlds Crafter is now live! In this release, we add additional functionality to session encounters which should make it easier to run your games and keep track of combat.

The New Encounter Builder

This update is all about encounters and making them more useful. The core update adds an initiative field to all enemies in an encounter, and will automatically sort them based on this.

Encounter Modal Example

As you can see, it also pulls in players associated with a campaign to help you see a full view of your combat. You also have the option to remove players on a per combat basis should a specific player not be involved.

The goal here was to make combat more seamless, and prevent you from having to track initiative and enemy health in a separate location. This should hopefully make running your games that much easier.

It also adds a new active encounter modal which helps cut down on the clutter so you can focus on your game. This also gives us a space to add additional features in the future.

Future Improvements

While this is a relatively small change, it gives us a good foundation to continue building out encounters to make them more involved. Some of our upcoming ideas are:

Settings to remove players from all encounters
Additional fields to track enemy abilities and spells
Grouped initiative
Encounter templates to make building them quicker
Non-combat encounters

We’re currently prioritizing these additions, so if any of them are something you’d like to see sonner let us know. We always look for feedback from our users, so let us know what you like or don’t like about this update and our future ideas. Your feedback helps shape our development priorities! That’s all for now, check back next week where we will be releasing the long awaited custom entities feature!

May 2, 2022 Release 0.0.6

We’re pleased to announce that our latest release is now live and available for all users. While this release took a little longer than expected, we think it’s worth the wait and lays the foundation for lots of future improvement. In particular, it integrates our existing Dungeon Maker mobile app into Worlds Crafter allowing users to create great looking dungeon maps easier.

Dungeon Maker Integration

Version 0.0.6 brings with it integration with our Dungeon Maker app. You’ll find a new tab in the sidebar menu that opens the new dungeon maker controls.

Here, you’ll be able to add, edit, and delete your dungeons. The controls work very similar to the mobile app, although we have some ideas to help make this easier for desktop users.

The current version basically takes a cut of the dungeon maker app in its current state, so it supports all the existing features. This includes drawing maps with various tiles, as well as placing things like loot, doors, monsters and more.

This should help in planning sessions by giving users one more tool to plan an important part of many role playing games. While we admit the make is fairly simple now, it’s still quite powerful for planning and will only become more so.

Future Improvements

As with many of our features we have lots of long term plans for improvements. Many of these have been suggested on the app itself, and we plan to keep both synced with new features. A few we have on our backlog include:

  • Add layers to make building complex maps easier
  • More tile types including ground and object placements
  • Transitions between different maps
  • Custom imports of tilesets

These are just a few items, and in the coming months we hope to rapidly improve the functionality to make it even more valuable in your planning sessions.

Outside of this, we’ve added a few bug fixes that should hopefully make using the app easier and better than before. If you notice any issues please reach out through our support email or submit the help form located in the app.

That’s all for this update, stay tuned as we plan to drop our next one within the next week. Until then, cheers from the Worlds Crafter team!

We've official launched the first update for Worlds Crafter! This update includes adding a new entity to track religious beliefs, and adding a timeline builder to many of the entities in the software. This should help users build more rich worlds.

This tracks with our commitment to weekly feature releases. We're already hard at work for next weeks release!

January 28, 2022 Launched Beta

Worlds Crafter is officially in beta! It's been a few months of hard work to get it to the MVP stage, but I'm finally happy with the current version.

I'm excited to have it finally launched, and hopefully start getting feedback on what works and what doesn't. I have an aggressive development schedule planned, and currently looking to do weekly feature releases.

About

Worlds Crafter was built to help me better manage my own games with friends. There are some existing solutions, but I felt a lot of them were too clunky and didn't quite fit my need
