Automate WordPress plugin updates

June 27, 2024 Got my first 4 users!

Just go my first users! I shared the product in the Freemius Slack group and that peaked the interest of some people in there

This doesn't validate the product by any means, but it always feels good to see your first users sign up. I can't wait to gather feedback from these early adopters.

Onwards!

March 15, 2024 Humble beginnings

It all started with a simple problem I faced: keeping WordPress plugins up-to-date across multiple client sites. Managing updates manually or even automated (outdated open source libs and what not), was an annoying process and I found myself pulling my hair out a lot lol. And this frustration really has been with me for a long time, but since WordPress 5.8 the update process has become easier.

So, I decided to create a simple API to automate this task for me. The goal was purely personal, make my life easier without the hassle of managing an update server or relying on update checker libraries.

I got the API to work in just a couple days, but I just chipped away at a simple dashboard in my free time. I wanted a UI to manage releases, add changelogs, and keep all my plugins updated without ever logging into wp-admin. It was perfect for me, and it worked so well that I decided to create a Github action too so I could automate the living sh*t out of my plugin development.

Initially, I didn’t plan on sharing it. I built it for myself, to make my workflow smoother and I didn’t do any market research or consider the broader needs of potential users. But a good friend told me this was incredible useful and that i should put myself out there.

So here we go! Planning to share updates as I go along with this project.
