Reached 1000 paying customers on CodeCanyon!

The plugin made his way through the competition on CodeCanyon, and reached 1000 sales after less than three years after its launch.

Cool! Would be great to have you on https://growthhacklist.com/interviews asking you some questions about growing code canyon-let me know what you think

    1. 1

Sure! Get in touch on [email protected].
As @Bitsky said, I'm an author (seller) on CodeCanyon.

      Cheers!

I guess that Yassine is not working on Code Canyon but selling his software there (to be more specific - WP Video Robot https://www.indiehackers.com/product/wp-video-robot).

      1. 1

Exactly! And I'm willing, before the end of 2019, to leave to have a new pricing model on my own store.

    Nice. Congratulations!

I used to build for Envato many years back. I made a lot of money but eventually abandoned it because people were looking for ridiculous support and configuration options on a $30 product.

      Thanks!
You're right. Plus, you are at the mercy of one angry customer that can leave a very bad review and some hateful comment...

Yeah that makes sense. For me selling software that you need to maintain for 1 time small payment is not the best idea. Is this possible to sell subscriptions for plugins on this platform?

      1. 2

Nope! You can only get a yearly support subscription. But in my case, that was around $12. I agree, it does not worth it.

I wonder how to get more sales from current user base acquired from Code Canyon. Is it possible to advertise your other products inside the plugin sold at this platform? Can you add some feature to this plugin that requires additional payment or subscription? Let's pretend that someone pays you 30 USD for basic version and after that he can upgrade to more advanced version. Is it possible to work with Code Canyon, or is it against their rules? Also can you sign people to some newsletter in your plugin (it would be great to have a way to reach them out afterwards with some additional sales campaign)?

          1. 2

Well, that's exactly what I'm doing.

During the activation process, the user is prompted for his purchase code / email address. He opts in automatically to my customers list.
Besides, for more advanced features, we offer premium add-ons that can be bought separately on our store. That's 100% compliant to CodeCanyon TOS.

Personally, I dont link the idea of advertising stuff within the plugin interface. The customer has paid for it, so I don't. Instead, I can send a monthly email about other premium add-ons. Honestly I did it only once because I never have the time.

Awesome! Your pipeline sounds pretty solid. Maybe you could hire Virtual Assistant for such campaigns? IMO it's crucial for your business to up-sell / cross-sell other plugins or services.

              1. 2

I will definitely get some help. Right now I am rebuilding the whole business and product shifting to a subscription based freemium model. Once the product and the infrastructure are ready, I will get into marketing and sales efforts.
Maybe you can recommend some names?

                1. 2

Unfortunately I don't know anyone who would fit this role and is free right now, but I guess I would try to find people on UpWork. Also it would be good to work on marketing and tech side concurrently. I don't think so that tech is a blocker here. Keep going, iterate and delegate stuff. I think you're in really good position to grow :). I'll keep fingers crossed for you.

Nice! How have you found CodeCanyon? And are you able to share what 1000 sales means in revenue?

    1. 1

Well CodeCanyon is a good place to make sales, but you don't have control over anything, except your landing page. After almost 5 years there, I can't wait to leave, because the commission they cut over each sale is not justified.

      1000 sales means around $25K.

Nice results! I would treat Code Canyon as the one sales channel and build other ones in parallel to this one. I pointed out ways to get more from current user base in thread above, that could be beneficial for your business. I'm not sure what are the rules on Code Canyon.
