Automated Visual Testing for WordPress Sites
Thanks to @csallen I'm adding "1 cold sales email per week" to my plan. I decided that avoiding sales is scarier than actually doing it!
3 years ago, I started a newsletter on freelancing & WordPress. I sent a broadcast today to everyone on it, asking them to unsubscribe if they don't want to hear from me any more. The response has been very very positive. I can't believe how worried I was about annoying people by sending 1 stinking email!
I'd better get over that fear, fast.
I hit an unexpected technical challenge: Heroku has limits on ImageMagick that make it difficult to do what I want to do.
On one hand, this is lame: I'd rather get this thing to market quickly.
On the other hand, this is cool: At least what I'm doing is sorta hard, right? It requires some competency to do correctly! And I will!
But enough about building, I need to think about selling more...
I know I've got to start selling early, so I built a basic long-form landing page at https://www.wpautotest.com/ with a signup form for the beta
I always give up when life gets busy. As the new year approaches I feel both extremely motivated and overwhelmed with trying to get this off the ground. I decided that this has to be fun. If it's not fun, I'll quit.
It will be fun, even if it means I don't hit every milestone I set for myself.
I started attempting visual testing of WordPress sites using existing tools (primarily built for programmers) to prove my concept could work. I quickly hit limitations on what was possible with other tools and custom-coded a simple visual screenshot + diffing mechanism running on a Rails app.
