I've been using NotebookLM pretty heavily lately. Honestly, the tech is impressive, but I kept hitting the same frustration: I have no control over how it structures content. You throw in ideas or a collection of materials, the AI spits out a deck, and it's either surprisingly perfect or completely unusable—with no room to adjust in between.
It felt like gambling. What I wanted was a tool that handles grunt works but lets me control the key decisions.
So I spent a few weeks building x2slides to solve my PPT problems.
Instead of making it a black box, I broke the process into transparent steps:
Input: Feed it a URL, video, text, or file (URLs work best right now, still refining the others).
Outline first: AI generates a structured outline and speaker notes. You can see its logic and adjust the content flow before any slides are generated—perfect for when you need to keep just a few keywords per slide, or add an executive summary upfront for time-pressed audiences.
Style control: Apply your own visual style, or—this is what I find most useful—extract a brand color theme directly from any company website URL. No more manually eyedropping RGB codes to match corporate templates.
Native delivery: What you get is a real, fully editable .pptx file. Need to add arrows to highlight a section of a graph? Want to drop in a meme where it fits? Just edit it like any normal PowerPoint.
Honestly, I personally lean toward clean, minimalist design (less is more, right?), so the default style is clean solid-color backgrounds. But I added the brand extraction feature because I kept hearing people complain about spending too much time manually matching company colors and fonts.
I'm curious that am I the only one frustrated by existing tools? Does separating content structure from visual design actually help your workflow? Or am I overcomplicating things?

The "outline first" approach is the key insight here. Most AI presentation tools skip straight to visual output, which means you're basically rolling dice on whether the structure makes sense. By the time you see the slides, restructuring means starting over.
Breaking it into transparent steps (content → structure → style) mirrors how professionals actually build decks - nobody good at presentations starts with fonts and colors.
The brand color extraction from URLs is clever for the corporate use case. Manual color matching is one of those small tasks that eats way more time than it should.
Question: are you seeing more traction from the "turn articles into presentations" use case, or the "help me structure my own ideas" use case? Those feel like different audiences with different retention patterns.
