XFolder
a modern file manager designed specifically for macOS
I moved from Windows to macOS a few years ago. Everything was great until I needed to manage files — and Finder just wasn't built for how I like to work.
I missed:
A persistent folder tree that stays visible
Dual-pane layouts for moving files between locations
Tabs that don't lose context when you go 5 folders deep
So I built XFolder, a macOS file manager.
What it does:
Multi-pane layouts (horizontal, vertical, mixed)
Persistent directory tree
Real tabs with keyboard shortcuts
Quick access sidebar
Breadcrumb navigation
Tech stack: C# + Avalonia UI + Swift
It's a side project I've been using daily for the past few months. The source code isn't public — this is a personal tool I decided to share.
Currently free to download. Would love feedback from anyone who's also frustrated with Finder.

What would make you switch from Finder to a third-party file manager?
About
I missed Windows Explorer's multi-pane layout and folder tree on macOS. Finder didn't have them, so I built XFolder — a file manager I actually enjoy using.
