September 5, 2026 Why Yunsoft built YunCMS: a focused MySQL backend

Yunsoft builds custom web, mobile and SaaS products. Across projects, we kept meeting the same backend needs: configurable collections and relations, explicit permissions, file management, a usable administration interface, and an extension model that did not hide the underlying system.

YunCMS is the open-source product we built to solve that repeated problem. Yunsoft is the company and maintainer; YunCMS is the product. It is an independent, MIT-licensed, self-hosted MySQL CMS/backend—not a hosted SaaS and not a renamed company profile.

The current pre-stable 0.1.x release includes:

- dynamic collections, fields and relations

- a schema-driven React Studio

- REST CRUD APIs

- role-based permissions and explicit accountability

- file management

- trusted server extensions

- optional AI and MCP integrations

We intentionally kept the V1 stack direct and understandable: Node.js 24 LTS, JavaScript/ESM, Express 5, React 19.2, Vite 8, and MySQL through mysql2/promise. There is no ORM or GraphQL layer. The aim is a small core that teams can inspect, operate and extend without adopting a much larger general-purpose platform.

The project is still pre-stable, so we are looking for practical feedback from teams evaluating self-hosted CMS and backend foundations—especially around setup, authorization boundaries, schema workflows and extension ergonomics.
