I shipped something!

I dreamt for years of having my own product, following a few indie hackers like Pieter Levels and others... but with a full-time day job, never managed to stick to one project until I had enough to ship anything... it ranged from 'work on it 2 weekends, try a few APIs to see how they work' to 'i have an app that starts on my phone but without any kind of styling, authentication, or deployment plan' but invariably I ended up soft-abandoning the projects, not really deciding to give up, but not having the energy to continue either.

So, last year, I had an opportunity to leave my job in good conditions and I told myself that i would stick with one project until I could ship. Since I had time, i aimed for something a little bigger: modernize the Terminal with the power of Web technology.

...And I did stick to it! It took much more time than I thought to have the v0, I had lots of doubts, almost gave up, literally restarted from scratch six months in, but. I. SHIPPED. SOMETHING!

So there's still an insane amount of work to do in order to have a production product, but I have a downloadable alpha version that users can try out and use. I already get a little value from it myself, and I think the concept is really powerful, although i still need to find my killer use-cases.

anyway, without further ado, i present Zint : https://www.zint.app , the terminal that lets you invoke React Components from the command line.

It will be a paid product at some point, although trying the alpha version is free (Mac only, for now, but built on cross-platform tech).

I'd love to hear your feedback ! :)

    Wow, that's a great idea!

Keep in mind though that developers don't seem very excited about closed-source paid terminals.

Thanks! Indeed, innovation about the terminal (especially close-source) is often a bit controversial (on HN at least), but it seems to generate a lot of interest too. I think a big problem of commercial terminals like the one you linked is that they are actually free-as-in-beer so it's unclear whether they act in the user's best interest. I hope an indie, paid product can help alleviate some of the concerns. But clearly, it's my top priority to validate this...
