Zodiac Match

I built [ZodiacMatch](https://zodiacmatch.xyz) — pick two Chinese zodiac animals, get an instant compatibility score. No ads, no sign-up, no fluff.

### The Problem

Chinese zodiac compatibility is one of those topics millions of people search every month, especially around Lunar New Year and wedding season. But the existing results are terrible: blog posts from 2015, forum threads, and spammy "fortune teller" sites. Nobody built a simple tool for it.

I search "dragon and snake compatibility" and I still have to read through 800 words of filler to get a vague "they're okay together."

### The Build

Two weeks to launch. Tech:

- Next.js 14, TypeScript, Tailwind

- 66 unique pairings encoded with scores, modifiers, and insights

- Each pairing has its own SEO page with unique metadata

- Vercel hosting (free tier)

The hardest part was structuring the data. Chinese zodiac compatibility isn't binary — it's based on traditional rules (harmonious trios, conflicting pairs) plus the Five Elements cycle. I broke it into dimensions: natural harmony, communication, emotional connection, long-term potential. Each dimension gets scored, then combined into a final 0–100.

### Launch So Far

Put it on Product Hunt (still pending). Posted a Dev.to article about the technical approach — got some good feedback from other devs. Early organic traffic is trickling in through long-tail queries like "rat and ox compatibility" and "tiger and rabbit love match."

### Traffic

Still early (under 2 months), running at about 50–100 organic visits/day. The strategy is pure long-tail SEO: 66 individual pairing pages catch specific search queries, the homepage catches the broad "Chinese zodiac compatibility" term.

### What's Next

- Block the ZodiacMatch branding once and for all

- Add blog content for each zodiac sign

- Multi-language version (Chinese, Vietnamese markets)

- Better sharing cards for social

### Why Build It?

Same reason as my other project (Angel Number) — find a keyword with real search demand, zero good tools serving it, and build the tool that should exist. Zero maintenance cost, compounds over time.
