I live-recorded a second customer interview I did today with a friend.
I tried really hard to stick to The Mom Test.
I wasn't perfect
but I was a lot better than my first customer interview last week.
Here's the audio and an outline if you'd like to listen:
0:00 - Reversal on not immediately telling my idea
0:31 - Tell me about your day-to-day
2:10 - How do you filter candidates
2:51 - How do you reach out
5:52 - Who do you work with
7:19 - How do you outreach to candidates
10:48 - Do you ever send them any specific assets
11:24 - Stumbling trying to share my idea... Super embarrassing
14:33 - Which seems more useful?
16:59 - What companies should we target first
18:21 - Question about recruiting tool
Good stuff! This will be helpful especially since I was planning for few interviews in the coming week.
What are your ideas on getting the leads for customer interviews?
Thanks! Yeah, so first find where your customers are online.
Answer the questions they're asking to show you can help them and are a real person.
Then DM them.
Tell them you're trying to start a business in the space. And ask them if they'd be willing to answer a few questions about their day-to-day for 15-mins.
Sounds good, thanks :)
Np!
This is great 👍 Thank you so much for posting! I'm already used to include the idea validation part at the end of in-depth interviews, but listening to your registration gave me some good points on how to improve this final part of my calls.
Right on. Glad you got some value from it, @squirrel.
Out of curiosity, what you did learn that might improve the final parts of your calls?
Great stuff!! Thanks!!
Cheers @Barakcodes
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing!
I think having content like this is really helpful. We all know that it's important to validate your ideas but there's very few "real" content out there showing that in action.
Somehow I can see a product here where validation calls are being analyzed and optimizations are proposed.
Would love to see more of those in the future.
Thanks Philipp.
That’s fascinating. I’ll start analyzing the calls from here. It’ll help validate if people are interested in that (super meta) and help me improve on calls too.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Sure thing!
Great! I can imagine that this will also help you as well. The other day I read about the practice of recording your sales calls and analyzing them after the fact. Apparently that's what the "good" salespeople are doing. I mean what can go wrong. You can only learn from your mistakes, right.
100%. The only thing that could go wrong is not doing it.
Thanks for the push, Philipp
