Looking for your help and insights!
Hello, indie hackers! My name is Stas, and this is my first post here. ππ
I and my brother created an automatic time-tracking app for the mac, which we released three months ago. The feedback from our users has been amazing so far, but we still struggle with getting the app in front of more people.
We are, of course, using all the social media sites to promote it, but it doesn't seem to change much. Do you have thoughts or insights on how or where to promote a mac app?
That is our website π https://timepal-app.com
Maybe we should change something there? What do you think?
Thank you in advance for your feedback! π

Hi Stas - looks like you have some competition to deal with.
Hard to know without more details of what you have tried, some observations:
Hello Rosie! I really appreciate your reply!
You are right, we have some big competition to deal with.
Thank you for your insights and tips!
It's worth looking to see what your competitors are doing as 'marketing', then you can choose to be where they are PLUS also think of different ways to reach out to people in ways that they don't.
Thank you for the suggestion!! π
Hi Stas,
Who is the product for? Are you having conversations with those people? Reading through the copy it is not clear who this is for nor why someone would need a time-tracking app.
It may be worthwhile interviewing people who you think would benefit from tracking their time so you understand their needs. This will also help you'll discover gaps that no other time-tracking app is filling. You can also pickup on the word choices your ideal customers use and add them to your website copy.
Here are a couple thoughts on the header copy:
I hope this is of help.
You've raised the exact point that I was also unsure about. Thank you so much for taking a look and investing the time to share your feedback! I really appreciateβ it!
No problem. Cheers!
Hi Stas βΒ site and app look really good.
As the other poster mentioned, this space is incredibly competitive. I know the space pretty well, and yet I don't think I've seen the rules-based time tracking thing.
It looks like a very smart idea, with a lot of interesting possibilities, including some to get you more users (e.g. integration with widely used project management software like Asana).
As far as traffic sources, I wouldn't bet on social media for a B2B product like this. I would probably start with the usual things like SEO (reverse engineer traffic sources for competitors), especially B2B software review websites.
Thank you for the kind words! True, we need to invest some time into improving our SEO.
And yes, we have plans to integrate with other tools, especially PM ones).
