12 startups as in 12 months on the other hand...how can you poor enough time, effort, money, marketing, sweat/blood/tears into to make even one of them take off?

Yeah, it's basically 12 projects. The idea is to build 12 MVPs then see if any get organic growth. If one does then put actual time into it to try to create a real startup from it.

12 startups in 12 months is a pretty common project. You can call it '12 projects' or '12 experiments' but basically you ship 12 things in 12 months.

What kind of startups?
12 MVPs. I don't have all the ideas yet just gonna keep going and hope I have a good idea each month.
