25+ AI agent opportunities indie hackers can build right now

When we started using AI agents at Jotform, I quickly realized they weren’t just another automation tool. They were something bigger — a way to build better products, solve frustrating business problems, and unlock new value.

Here are all the opportunities I’m seeing — including products and internal tools. Please steal these ideas!

1. Opportunities for AI agents as products (build something new)

In this section, I’m talking about AI agents that are external — opportunities for founders to build AI-powered businesses and serve new markets.

AI agents for niche, underexplored markets

These AI agents solve specific pain points in niche industries, where automation is still rare.

  • Hyper-local business AI agents – Manage bookings, customer follow ups, and reviews for plumbers, salons, and other local services.
  • Crowdfunding campaign AI agents – Handle backer updates, stretch goal tracking, and logistics.
  • Grant-writing and nonprofit fundraising AI agents – Research, draft proposals, and optimize outreach.
  • Remote team culture AI agents – Automate team building, morale tracking, and engagement.
  • Personal cybersecurity AI agents – Monitor for data breaches, flag suspicious activity, and manage passwords.
  • Gig economy AI agents – Optimize schedules, manage invoicing, and suggest higher-paying opportunities.
  • Mental health and wellness AI agents – Track habits, send wellness reminders and offer personalized support.

AI agents that solve business pain points in new ways

These AI agents help businesses operate better and scale faster — great opportunities for B2B AI startups.

  • Industry-specific customer support AI – AI agents that answer questions for specialized industries like healthcare, legal, or real estate.
  • AI agent for freelancers and solo founders – Automate invoices, project updates, and client messages.
  • AI for online communities – Maintain the culture of online communities while enforcing rules
  • AI for docs and support – Turn company knowledge into AI-powered help.
  • AI for eCommerce – Manage service, returns, and inventory.
  • AI for content – Turn long-form content into posts, newsletters, and SEO articles.
  • AI for SaaS tools – Connects AI to Slack, Notion, Trello, and more.
  • AI for small biz finance – Tracks expenses, cash flow, and budgets.
  • AI for sales – Finds leads, writes emails, and follows up automatically.
  • AI for personal brands – Helps influencers manage audience engagement.
  • AI for events – Automates RSVPs, vendor coordination, and feedback.
  • AI for B2B procurement – Vets suppliers, handles RFQs, and manages contracts.

AI for personal productivity and life optimization

Beyond work, AI can help streamline personal and family life too — great opportunities for B2C AI startups.

  • AI for managing family schedules – Automate meal planning, appointments, and shared tasks.
  • AI-powered travel planning – Adjusts real-time itineraries based on delays, weather, or traffic.
  • AI for personalized learning and skill-building – Adaptive AI tutors that tailor learning paths.
  • Health data AI assistants – Pull insights from wearables and suggest optimizations.
  • AI for handling life admin – Pay bills, schedule appointments, and manage daily reminders.

2. Opportunities for AI agents as process optimization (improve your existing company)

These AI agents are internal tools — ways founders can use AI to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve efficiency inside their own businesses.

AI for automating and improving business operations

  • Customer support AI – Handle 80% of inquiries while escalating complex issues to humans.
  • AI-powered pricing optimization – Analyze customer behavior and adjust pricing dynamically.
  • Predict and prevent customer churn – AI flags at-risk customers and triggers retention offers.
  • Automate financial reporting – AI generates reports, tracks cash flow, and suggests budget improvements.
  • AI-powered lead qualification – Screen and rank incoming leads, passing only the best to sales teams.
  • AI for employee onboarding and HR – Guide new hires, answer HR questions, and track employee feedback.
  • Vendor relationship management AI – Track supplier compliance, manage contracts, and streamline communication.
  • Post-sale customer engagement AI – Follow up with customers, gather feedback, and suggest personalized offers.
  • AI-driven personalized marketing – Generate tailored email and ad campaigns based on customer behavior.
  • AI for managing remote teams – Track project progress, assign tasks, and flag potential delays.

3. How to find even more AI opportunities

The opportunities are endless if you’re looking for more ways to leverage AI agents. Here are a few pointers:

  1. Look for businesses that don’t use AI yet. Some industries still do things the old way — AI could make them faster and easier.
  2. Find tasks people dislike. AI can probably do it better if it’s boring, repetitive, or takes too long.
  3. Make AI more personal. Many AI tools are too basic. A custom AI could help specific groups of people more effectively.
  4. Choose industries that change fast. AI is great for areas where things update all the time, like finance, marketing, and legal work.
  5. Keep up with trends. Websites like Trends.VC, Exploding Topics, and Product Hunt show what’s becoming popular.

Good luck!

Amazing breakdown, Aytekin! At AgileSoftLabs, we’ve seen similar patterns while building agent-based SaaS tools.

For instance, Creator AI OS handles intelligent content creation workflows across platforms, while Business AI OS streamlines enterprise operations through smart automation. We’ve also developed niche agents like CareSlot AI for healthcare scheduling and EngageAI for ecommerce engagement.

I thought about building an AI agent assistant with my cloned voice.

Just to talk out loud at home with myself.

I believe it could be so helpful, what do you think?

Build it for yourself as a side project! You could probably build this in a day with Replit/Bolt or other AI code builder.

Like I'm working on a side project to help indie hackers like you bounce ideas and feedback faster.

    Are you founder of Jotform?

Great list. I would highlight that the agent market for personal productivity and life optimization will be huge (imo)
