I'm going to do a 30 day test for a new product idea.
Wondering if anyone wants to join me and form a little cohort.
When:
- looking to start this weekend (July 26th)
Why:
- Accountability - you'll have 4 other people at the same stage as you, dealing with the same problems as you.
- Fun - meet new people. weekly zoom call to talk about problems / solutions.
- Launch - actually launch within 30 days
Theory:
- Building in public is a great way to get initial traction from exhaust data (see @druriley 's trends).
- Doing it as a cohort (i.e. more than one person) will increase the number of eyeballs for all parties involved. More than if we were to do it individually.
Rules:
- Do it all in public. Literally everything.
- Meet once a week on zoom
- Slack channel for fun / resources / complaining / encouraging
- Launch something, and hopefully profit.
Winning:
- might be fun if there's a "winner" -> most revenue after 30 days wins. Not sure what. Maybe I'll make a tshirt and ship it to you :)
I'm based in LA
Who's in?
Edit: I put an airtable form together. If you're interested throw your email there and I'll reach out <removed>
Edit2: Well, this got more interest than I expected. Is 10 too many? idk.
Edit 3: We're at 14 people signed up. We can just do multiple cohorts of 5 in parallel. I'll reach out to everyone in a few hours and try to get you on slack or something so we can all discuss the details.
Edit 4: I've emailed all 21 of you. If you didn't get it, check spam?
Edit 5: We've filled up this round. I've put together a waitlist here if you'd like to join the next time around. https://airtable.com/shrAOUMd5SfLjsBPa
I am in, I hope :)
If you have too many people, I or someone else can facilitate a parallel challenge.
There's 14 so far. Probably half will drop out. I don't have the heart to say no to anyone but yeah if it comes to that, that would be awesome. Or I can just split it up into groups of 5 and just help organize / moderate.
I have run similar ones before - https://www.indiehackers.com/post/online-co-working-session-sat-jun-15th-1f118e16e0
One way I handled too many people is to start with the whole group then break up into rooms
Love it.
Do you think having each "group/cohort" in their own slack channel and then having a main channel with everyone in it is cool for async communication outside of the once a week meeting?
I would start with just the main channel - if it becomes overwhelming then separate - I guess dont fix it until you know it is broken.
That said- it would be good to have some basic guidelines like use threads and limited use of [at]here [at]channel
Awesome - and yeah probably not everyone will show.
Really looking forward to it.
m all in bro i love the idea ... m in it
awesome! I'm realizing i need a way to get people's info haha. Give me a few, I'll set up an airtable :)
https://airtable.com/shrn8NlGXprCdMHpl Let's do this!
Hm, the idea is interesting! But... I have several "buts".
First of all, 30 days is too long for testing an idea, I think. The testing cycle should much shorter. So, I would title it as "finding a profitable idea".
Second, I wouldn't use zoom for it. I mean, I wouldn't use any video calls. I'm just not ready yet to reveal my identity :)
I like everything else. I also would do some daily "stand-ups".
Respectfully this is an extreme POV. 30 Days is NOT long.
Frankly one of the things big companies get right is the use of a Fiscal Quarter, 90 days, 13 weeks to test your message, your market, your pricing, etc.
I have built several 8-figure businesses & just passed 7-figures for my current company & NONE of them were anywhere near viable in 30 days.
Join us! Teach us the dance of your people! ๐๐๐
well a big part of it is age young padawan, I am 2x older than most people on here lol. That allowed me to fail a ton also.
๐คฃ Maybe at the end we could have a few people "judge" like yourself, perhaps try and rope @csallen in too
I bet you are younger than me.
You would kill me, but yes, my POV is the testing period should be as short as possible, ideally, 3-5 days, no more! Of course, you can test it not only 13 weeks, but 13 months, but it's not a good and effective way if you, say, have several ideas to test and not many resources.
When you start your 8-figure business, did you do it alone, without any resources?
I don't have money. I don't have time. I have multiple ideas. So, for me, 5 days is a max period. If I can't verify it roughly in 5 days, this idea is just not for me.
you should join, and just not do the video calls.
Or it could be kind of cool if you did no video and altered your voice on the audio!
Love the stand up idea!
And very mysterious of you but respect, you do you.
Maybe Iโm getting old but 30 days seems like a sane amount of time to validate an idea while working full time. Iโd love to hear a way to do it shorter but for b2b stuff if you do cold out reach on week one it can take time to get enough responses and interactions to make a decision.
Is this still open? Would love to join in aswell!
Great idea!
ty!
I'm in! I just submitted the airtable form.
yesss
im interested
Heck yeah! Throw your email in here https://airtable.com/shrn8NlGXprCdMHpl or just dm me on twitter @andrewpierno
This is an awesome idea, unfortunately I cannot join yet as it will take me a bit of time for my first launch. I wish there were regular events like these ones (small tems of people comotivating themselves).
No worries. If this first cohort works and people like it, I'll keep doing it :)
we have group 3 starting on the 15th if you want to join! https://airtable.com/shrAOUMd5SfLjsBPa
