Hey IH!

What does it takes to get the first 100 Beta users?

After posting the first time on ShowHN a few days back, I have netted a grand total of 1 user.

Now I'm trying again on https://betalist.com/startups/scooget and will report my results back here. Any feedback or criticism on how to do this right will be greatly appreciated.

    Update today on https://betalist.com/startups/scooget : 59 users (no sign-up)

(The ShowHN 1 user mentioned in the original post is a signed-up user, ShowHN today have 13 users without sign-up )

that would be interesting to see

Moreover, there is very useful round-table discussion on IH here

Hey thanks dimkots! They are definitely useful and I'll certainly be looking into Reddit.

Hi Chiang! Even this 1 user is important! Congrats on that!

We at Ambissues have been working on getting Early Access Requests for 5 months and we have collected around 40 emails. We've used a variety of methods to come that far:

    1. An active Twitter account: Ambissues @ Twitter
    2. This very IH account has been very useful in getting people know your work
    3. User Interviews with people we asked to talk to us. We joined several Product Manager communities and talked to people in person
    4. No ProductHunt launch yet
    5. Medium: We have a Medium publication here where we post every other week or so about our progress and features we are going to release.

Thanks for the encouragement Dimkots. Like the quote "Do things that don’t scale. Again and again." in your medium post.

      1. Using own Twitter account @ https://twitter.com/ChiangYeo
      2. No offence to IH but jury is still out as many posts seem ephemeral.
      3. Will certainly do so with hopefully more beta users.
      4. Upcoming ProductHunt Ship but not launched yet @ https://www.producthunt.com/upcoming/scooget
      5. Will be looking into it, content is still king.

Thanks Natagon, it's no longer available under Show HN tab but you can search for it under Scooget. I tried to copy HN link but it'll just go directly to Scooget site.

The easiest way is to make something people want and are actively looking for.

Hi alchemist, you've got a strong point as I'm certainly hoping to build something that's useful but this can only be verified by potential users like yourself.

      1. 1

If people are looking for something or a solution to an issue, you don't need users to verify that. You'll hear (or see) them asking!

In contrast, if your starting point is an idea you had or something you've already built, then your odds of having chosen something where it's easy to find users is very low. If you've already shared on HN and here and people aren't excited and signing up, then you've got a slog in front of you.

I'm not going to sign up because I don't have any problems finding tech gadgets. Amazon alone handles that need for me. If I want other people's opinions, I might talk to my friends, but usually I don't even do that. The last thing I want is another social network consuming my time. Maybe that's no problem. Maybe someone else is actively looking for your project.

If you've already shared it on HN and here, I doubt it, though. I'd do more listening, not asking people what they want but paying attention to what people are looking for and asking about on and offline. Then try to serve that need.

          Noted with thanks.

Seems a little bit generic advice to me

      1. 1

It's generic because it's widely applicable!

        1. 1

Yeah, I agree on the validity! The value it offers seems a little too low though

          1. 1

I disagree. A lot of people here waste a lot of time pushing stuff nobody wants. Not only does that waste their time, but it wastes the time of everyone who doesn't want the thing they see promoted.
