A daily task to grow your Twitter audience

Hey Indiehackers,

We all know how your Twitter audience can get you your first customers.

In fact, @dagorenouf and @NontechAna are great examples of this.

They’ve been consistently tweeting and connecting with their followers and getting feedback, support, and sales in the process.

But being consistent isn't easy.

It’s one more task in a list of 147 other tasks on your list. Plus it can be confusing to tweet, DM, build, connect and reply.

To help you here, I’m giving you a list of 15 tasks you can do for the next 2 weeks on Twitter.

You don’t have to spend a brain cell wondering what you have to do - just straight up do it.

This task list is specially curated for an Indie Hacker.

  1. Share what you’re building in one tweet
  2. Ask a simple question (can be around the problem you’re solving with your project)
  3. Engage with another Indie Hacker on Twitter
  4. Write a good morning tweet - can be something like “gm to everyone except for people who aren't building a product”
  5. Share a meme on your journey/niche
  6. Share one thing you learned from your Indie Hacker journey
  7. Share screenshots of your project
  8. Share your favorite quote
  9. DM a new follower and thank them for their support
  10. Tag a tool you use and thank the creators for it
  11. Share your failure as an Indie Hacker
  12. Tweet out an indie hacker tip
  13. Share another meme :P
  14. Share your win as an Indie Hacker
  15. Your favorite inspiration (quote/person)

This doesn’t have to be a lengthy task. Only one 280 chars tweet would do.
The idea is to just show up every day :)

You may not get engagement straight away but if you turn up every day, even with small tasks, you’re gonna be at the very least... 37% better at the end of the year.

If you are interested in compounding your Twitter growth, we started a daily newsletter that helps you. We’re sending one Twitter task each day to your inbox.

You can do the task in minutes without thinking.

You can sign up here.

If you’re more interested in growing your Twitter on your own, I have a detailed post about it here -> Twitter 101 for Indie Hackers

All the best for 2022 and if you have any questions..shoot!

Cheers

    Doing god's work Yannick 🔥

    1. 2

I checked your account and I saw you've made a lot of memes! They are really funny but I wonder how much time does it take to produce them? I'm always thinking to create something like that and even started but I always stopped because it took toooo much time for me...

      1. 1

Thanks mate! Well i spent 6 months doing twitter full time, as it kept growing my sales. Now turned it down somehow but it's still a lot. Each meme take between 20-min to 2hours to make. But for me at least, it's worth it :)

        1. 2

Thanks! I suspected it doesn't take just 5 minutes!

      1. 3

I was curious about what @seacat mentioned above as well - what is the best way for an indie hacker to quickly pump them out? are they are easy ways or formulas for coming up with memes? I know I personally struggle with it, or even posting at Twitter at all. But the prospect of just easily posting funny memes all day and doing so quickly would be a game changer for me. Perhaps there is already an existing site or app that does this?

        1. 2

It would be the dream to make those quickly seth! But I haven't found a way to generate those, always have to come up with stuff. I do use imgflip.com though, which makes it somewhat easier. but still takes between 20min to 2 hours to make a good one.

  2. 4

As someone who is #buildinginpublic for almost a year, I should say, in most cases, it's not enough just to "build in public".

Memes, screenshots, failures, wins... are okay. But if you are looking for more followers they need something else.

    What is it?

    Numbers!
    People love numbers!
Especially those showing your progress and wins (and failures too). Examples:

    • the amount of sign-ups (don't tell them if there are only 5)
    • the story behind your building (like I've spent 2 days building authentication)
    • the progress bars and graphics
    • the amount of money you earned from your own project (it's always a win even if it's just $5).
    1. 1

One of my most popular tweets is still about my first paying customer. Absolutely agree with all the points about money/numbers.

    2. 1

seconding the money earned observation. it's fun to acknowledge, celebrate, and learn from others' wins especially when it's a first sale or customer (or first few). the first steps can be the hardest!

  3. 3

I always tell my clients that the audience on Twitter is much more important than they think.

Honestly, 10k on Insta < 1k on Twitter.

    1. 2

10k on Instagram is pretty good as well but it strongly depends on your product. Probably Travel niche will work way better on Instagram than on Twitter.

    2. 1

IG is indeed easier than Twitter, by far

    3. 1

Could you elaborate more? Why do you think that?

      1. 3

By the nature of the two platforms, Twitter "followers" are usually far more likely to engage with the people they follow.

  4. 2

Hey Yannick, this article is really useful, actually, I've been thinking for a while about how I can grow the audience on Twitter! so thank you so much to share it. Thanks!

  5. 2

I always knew you're the best! The ideas you come up with are just 🔥

And thank you for mentioning me, Yannick

  6. 2

Honestly excellent. Short, sweet, and simple. Interested in that at least 37% though haha. Is that one of those people-just-like-specific-numbers copywriting hacks

    1. 2

It's badly stolen from James Clear. If you improve yourself 1% a day you get better 3700% a year through compounding. I figured if you do this for a year that should be at least 37% ;)

      1. 2

haha love it! stealing like an artist right there

  7. 1

I'm actually going to do this for the rest of the month, starting today. 1/15 is done!

Great article, and I also like the "Twitter 101 for Indie Hackers". Thanks for sharing!

  9. 1

    Thanks for the daily tasks.
I have just finished the second task.
I might use this comment as a progress log.
    :)

  10. 1

Thank you so much for this, perfect timing with perfect content for me 🙏

  11. 1

We have to do all these tasks everyday

  12. 1

    Great Post, Yannick 🔥🔥
I also share my learnings on Twitter

    1. 2

      You're welcome Himanshu!

  13. 1

This is neat, but i have a question. Which is better to engage people, daily newsletter or weekly newsletter? Just started a newsletter and want to know https://instatuts.herokuapp.com/

    1. 2

Senior back end dev here, and front end beginner with React (I could be your target :-).
Probably you could be more incisive if your landing page become the showcase of what your reader can do if they follow your tutorials.
I also suggest to build your LP in React, since you're going to talk about that.

      1. 1

Good idea, screenshots are okay? With text describing what they are below?

        1. 1

Screenshots are the minimum. Working components/pages are the best.

    2. 2

      It depends :)

If you can create a great daily newsletter send it daily. If you can’t, don’t :)

  14. 1

Wow! Love such short and effective actionable insights.

  15. 1

I tweet - and yet almost nobody engages, replies...maybe a couple of likes: what do you suggest to do?

    1. 2

Engage first. Tweet second. Definitely when you don't have many followers. You need to be where others already are.

  16. 1

I'll definitely be knocking out some of these tasks as I just joined Twitter last month. Thanks for sharing!

    1. 1

      Great to hear Rishi!

  17. 1

Most of the time writing feels quite weird as literally no one interact with you. How do you manage that?

    1. 2

      Interact first. Write later.

You need to build an audience by engaging with others first. And yes, it's definitely hard in the beginning.

That's also why we start Twitter Daily. Because you can search for the hashtag #twitterdaily and interact with others who are also in the challenge.

  18. 1

This is much better than the vague "grow your twitter" recommendations out there!

  19. 1

I could never master Twitter... Will try your recipe. Thank you!

    1. 1

      Good luck!

      Just get started.

      Tweet every day.
Find similar ppl on Twitter. Talk to them. Like friends.

  20. 1

    Excellent tips, thank you!

    1. 1

      You're welcome Noah!

  21. 1

This is so helpful, Yannick. Many thanks!
