Have you ever pay 200 Tv channels and only watch 5 or 10? If that's your case, then you need to read this.
What about if you could pay for just the channels that you want? Let's say 20 plus HBO and Fox Premium, wouldn't that be fair? As well, if you got no Smartv , hire our services and you receive a Roku device for you to access Netflix, AmazonPrime or Disney+. We want that you pay for what you receive and not being forced to pay for a pricey plan. No installation needed, just an internet connection and you are ready to go!
....
Well that was my pitch, how was it? Too bad? That's my idea. I'm located in Bogotá, Colombia (spelled with 2 o's, not Columbia), South America and this service doesn't exist here. Why? Mainly because no one knows about it, everyone has always paid for a bunch of channels and no one cares. But I do. If I want a bottle of water, I don't want to feel forced to pay 20 or 30, I want ONE bottle of water, why it couldn't work like this? it's not convenient for the enternaiment industry, it's a business
The distribution channels for my product would be through an Smartv app or through Roku, depending on which one is more convenient to develop, you just need internet and there wouldn't be necessary any installation, just download the app to your smartv or plug in your Roku with the HDMI cable to tv and to the wall for power and you are ready to enjoy. Pricing would depend in how many channels you select and if you want any premium channels. Starting up, wouldn't be any contract but ideal would be to have one (to pay for the device) at least for 12 months.
I would appreciate your feedback. Am I getting insane? Does the idea sound valid to you? if it does.... How would you do it? I do got programming skills (I study CS) and I got a good CMO but I don't have a clue about this services. Neither about how to develop an app for Roku devices or smartv's, how to announce it, how to "deal" with channel providers, etc. In fact, it's bootstraping the idea from tv providers in the US , only difference is that I don't got millions and dollars, tens of enginneers nor experience. But that's the point, doesn't it? To startup.
Thank you for your comments, the more specific and technical the more I will enjoy them, plese have no mercy.
Hi Nicolas!
Thanks for sharing your idea!
That indeed does not feel fair to be obliged to pay for 200 channels if you only watch 5.
I quickly checked some data and apparently Americans are still watching something like 8 hours of TV per day ... which is only 1h less than 10 years ago.
However, I would be curious to know how much younger generations (mine, for example, I am 26 yo) are watching TV.
Personally, I cut off my TV subscription 2 years ago and I am about to cut my Netflix subscription as well.
I found that there is sufficient interesting content online for free and on-demand (Youtube, HDSS, Twitch, ...).
But I agree that TV is still very popular for older generations.
When you say no one knows about such service (to only choose the TV channels you want to pay for), I guess you are referring to the population, not the TV channels manager.
Maybe what you could do is just inform the population, get some petition signed for having such service created or explain to the population what "innovations" exist in other countries that could save them money if they were implemented in your country.
Hope I understood your problem and idea correctly and that my feedback was helpful!
(PS: happy if you could roast my idea as well: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/how-about-a-startup-framework-web-app-ba07f8636d)
