Question: What is your "go to" recipe for setting up a new web based product?
I'm curious to find out how different people's processes are when they're setting up their next tempting web project.
In a nutshell mine would be something like:
My goal is to find the most common mentalities and processes established when producing a new web product in 2018/2019.
Could you elaborate a little more on
your Step 3? I'm assuming you mean market research here? What concrete steps do you take?
I think step 3 doesn't really have a 'one size fits all' approach.
It depends on what problem you're solving. And for whom.
When I set up a jewellery ecommerce store, for example, I came up with 20 mockups of jewellery products. I then went out to friends/friends of friends who I though would be ideal customers, and asked them to make preorders.
I made it clear that I would only be producing the pieces which had preorders, so if they liked it they needed to put their money where their mouth is (mouths are?).
With a software product, there are a few different ways of validating the demand.
One way I'm a fan of is to offer to solve the problem as a (paid) consultant. That way, you know there is a demand for the product and get paid to build it.
Another is just to ask people to preorder. I know there are founders who are uncomfortable doing this, but it does work.
