Android File Transfer Not Working? 5 Fixes and a Wireless Alternative
Google's Android File Transfer app has a reputation for failing at exactly the wrong time—especially on newer Macs and Android versions. If it will not connect, open, or show your files, here are five fixes worth trying.
1. Change the USB mode on Android
Open USB preferences and change the connection from charging to File Transfer (MTP).
2. Try a real data cable
Many USB-C cables only provide power. Try a cable specifically rated for data transfer.
3. Restart Android File Transfer
Quit the application completely, unplug the phone, reconnect it, unlock the phone, and reopen the app.
4. Approve access on the phone
Tap Allow if Android asks for access to phone data or whether to trust the computer.
5. Reinstall the application
A damaged or outdated installation can cause connection errors. Reinstalling Android File Transfer may help.
