Are we just chasing the low hanging fruits?

Great article on The atlantic discussing what the role in tech is. Are we all just chasing the low-hanging fruit and not doing anything for society?

"But what if, instead of focusing on Big Tech’s sins of commission, we paid equal attention to" ... I bet something positive is coming!!!

"its sins of omission—the failures, the busts, the promises unfulfilled?"
    :(

Ok, is it just me, or is racking on tech getting really old? I don't think anthropomorphising "tech" as having certain motives and bad personality streaks is very helpful. What is really happening is that things get developed because they are ripe for development. A majority of progress will be of that kind. Sometimes someone does something remarkable, like build a rocket company, or invent something really non-obvious, but I'd say most of the progress since the industrial revolution has been incremental progress on previous designs.

Low hanging fruit, if not building pointless tools for pointless purpose.
Society? Just see how many products are marketing analytics, advertising and other customer relationship jazz.
