Ok, is it just me, or is racking on tech getting really old? I don't think anthropomorphising "tech" as having certain motives and bad personality streaks is very helpful. What is really happening is that things get developed because they are ripe for development. A majority of progress will be of that kind. Sometimes someone does something remarkable, like build a rocket company, or invent something really non-obvious, but I'd say most of the progress since the industrial revolution has been incremental progress on previous designs.
