Bad news for solo indie hackers: building alone is killing your startup

Here's a hard truth I've learned after talking to 100+ indie hackers:

  • 80%+ of successful startups have co-founders
  • Solo founders take 3x longer to reach market fit
  • 90% of solo founders experience burnout in first year

Why going solo is a trap:

  1. You're trying to be a full-stack developer, marketer, sales person, and support all at once
  2. While you're coding, your competition is already selling
  3. No one to share the emotional burden with
  4. Investors prefer founding teams over solo founders

But here's the good news:
You don't have to do it alone anymore.

I faced this exact problem when building ReplyGuy. Everything changed when I found a marketing co-founder. In just 2 months we:

  • Launched the product
  • Got first paying customers
  • Started growing organically

This experience inspired me to build IndieMerger.com - an AI-powered platform where tech founders can find verified marketing & business co-founders (and vice versa).

No more endless coffee meetings or hoping to get lucky on Twitter.
Just smart matching with people who complement your skills.

Bullshit articles like this one are killing this community.

I love building, but my brain cannot get excited about marketing and sales in the same way.

Super awesome idea! It's especially hard when you are based in EU but want an American co-founder.

I realised I had the same problem, but once I started marketing and getting on sales calls, my perspective changed. I'd rather build a business than just a product

And just like that, we became an advertisement for this very post. Builders need Sellers and vice versa.

Building solo can be isolating, but I've found that creating a structured system and sharing my journey helps combat that loneliness. It's about finding balance and connecting with others who understand the solo path.

Reliable business partners are super hard to find.

Partners are hard to find. Hire somebody, even part-time when you can.
