When we started Moneko, the goal was simple: make financial literacy fun and easy.
We wanted a kind of Duolingo for money with bite-sized lessons, a friendly AI coach, and gamified learning for Gen Z.
After five months, we launched a polished MVP that looked great and worked smoothly. But almost no one used it.
Some said it looked too vibe-coded. Others did not trust it enough to take advice about money. That one hurt. We realized the real challenge was not the technology, it was trust.
One user told me he would pay if the app could give expert insights. That was when it clicked. We were building what we thought people wanted, not what they truly needed.
So we made the hard call to start over.
We dropped the AI learning layer and rebuilt around something simpler: budgeting.
It may not sound fancy, but it solves a real problem and lets us earn trust step by step.
Validate trust early, even when you only have an idea.
Avoid adding features users did not ask for.
Monetization begins with trust, not technology.
I am proud we did not quit.
Failure taught us more than success ever could.
