AI Budgeting Made Simple
We just launched Moneko GPT!
A free AI that lets you chat with your budget: log expenses, summarize spending, and plan smarter in seconds.
It’s now available free on ChatGPT.
This is our first step toward making budgeting feel effortless and conversational, instead of overwhelming and complicated.
Excited (and a little nervous) to see how people use it!
When we started Moneko, the goal was simple: make financial literacy fun and easy.
We wanted a kind of Duolingo for money with bite-sized lessons, a friendly AI coach, and gamified learning for Gen Z.
After five months, we launched a polished MVP that looked great and worked smoothly. But almost no one used it.
Some said it looked too vibe-coded. Others did not trust it enough to take advice about money. That one hurt. We realized the real challenge was not the technology, it was trust.
One user told me he would pay if the app could give expert insights. That was when it clicked. We were building what we thought people wanted, not what they truly needed.
So we made the hard call to start over.
We dropped the AI learning layer and rebuilt around something simpler: budgeting.
It may not sound fancy, but it solves a real problem and lets us earn trust step by step.
Biggest lessons
Validate trust early, even when you only have an idea.
Avoid adding features users did not ask for.
Monetization begins with trust, not technology.
I am proud we did not quit.
Failure taught us more than success ever could.
If your product is not clicking yet, keep going.
Learn, adjust, and stay in the game.

I used to work a safe 9 to 5 job. It paid for my mortgage, groceries, and utilities, but there was never much left. I told myself that was enough because it gave me security.
Over time, I began to notice a pattern. The harder I worked, the more I spent. I would buy things to reward myself for making it through another stressful week. Fancy dinners, new gadgets, anything that made me feel like my effort was worth it. It became a cycle of burnout and spending.
To get control, I started logging every expense and saving every receipt. I wanted to feel mindful, but instead, I felt stressed. Most budgeting apps made me feel like I was constantly failing. I gave up, tried again, and gave up again.
Eventually, I realized that what I was really chasing was not money, but peace of mind.
So I quit.
Starting Over
When I left my job, I had no big plan. I started freelancing again, which gave me time to think about how I wanted to live. I realized I wanted something slower and simpler.
One night, I opened Figma and started sketching an idea for a tool that could help people like me. A tool that made money management feel calm instead of stressful. That was the first spark of what would become Moneko.
What Building Taught Me
Building Moneko became a mirror. I started seeing patterns in my behavior and my mindset. It was not just about spending, it was about how I reacted to stress, to time, to the feeling of control.
Money was never the real problem. It was the relationship I had with it. The guilt, the pressure, the idea that I had to be perfect to be responsible.
Moneko became a small way to unlearn that. It reminded me that progress matters more than perfection, and that small steps bring more peace than constant optimization.
Where I Am Now
I am still figuring things out. Moneko is small, early, and imperfect. But it has already changed how I live.
Some days I miss the comfort of a steady paycheck, but I do not miss the constant pressure. I wake up curious instead of anxious. I measure my progress in clarity and calm, not income.
That feels like a good trade.
About
Building Moneko because I never found a budgeting app I could stick to. I just want to log, forget, and feel in control.
