Best strategies for growing a newsletter?

Hey, I’m Ben! I write weekly about how to build and grow products users love.

I have a full-time job as a growth product manager and a fundamental element of being good at that job is understanding how to build and grow a product.

I've put together an execution strategy for my newsletter but this is a new product category for me. I'd love to hear from some experts; what works, what doesn't, how can I help myself grow?

Also feel free to check out the newsletter! This week's article comes out tomorrow and it's all about how to successfully execute on an AI startup, which I know a lot of the community is working on. You're not going to want to miss it!

The one thing that's actually moved the needle for my small neighborhood newsletter (about 50 subscribers) is personally DMing everyone featured in an issue after it goes out, not asking for a share, just pointing to what I wrote about them. It's slower than blasting social media, but it's turned into real repeat engagement because people notice you actually paid attention to their specific work.

Been in newsletter space writing about Micro SaaS Ideas every week.

Initially, you will feel like writing in void with not many subscribers.
    Some pointers:

    • Use forums like Reddit, IH and post often about what you are writing about.
    • Leverage Betalist, ProductHunt and launch early incase of Newsletters
    • Create small side products and launch again. Connect the side product to the main Newsletter to drive more subs
    • Cross promotion ( I haven't done this but seen other people doing it)
    • Keep going

Thanks for the tips, Upenv! At what stage did you launch your newsletter on producthunt? How many posts / subscribers did you have?
