BlogBowl goes Open Source + launches on Product Hunt

Hey Indie Hackers 👋

I’m Dan, founder of BlogBowl - and after 1.5 years of building (and rebuilding), I’m finally launching it today! 🎉

It started as a simple open source blog platform focused on technical SEO, and grew into a plug-and-play AI system that writes, optimizes, and publishes SEO-ready posts every day - no coding required.

The problem 👀

When I built my first project, setting up a blog took weeks.

Managing SEO was messy, I had to use multiple tools, and publishing content that actually ranked was exhausting.

I thought - there has to be a faster, cleaner way to get content online and make it rank.

Step 1: The Open Source Core 🩵

I started by building a solid open source base with technical SEO baked in — fast templates, structured metadata, and a Notion-like editor.

You can:

  • Connect a subdomain or subfolder

  • Manage blogs, newsletters, changelogs, and help docs

  • Do it all without touching code

💻 Check it out here → GitHub repo

The goal: give founders and teams a fast, flexible, open foundation that allows managing blogs, newsletters, changelogs and help docs and which is fast to setup.

Step 2: Adding AI 🤖

Once the Core was stable, I layered AI on top.

Now BlogBowl can:

📝 Generate SEO-rich posts (listicles, comparisons, guides)

🌍 Localize them for any language or country

📊 Add context from top-ranking pages, images, videos, stats, citations

🔗 Suggest forum discussions (Reddit, Quora) and backlink opportunities

Each post uses ~50 different calls to gather and analyze data - not just a single AI prompt. It’s research-grade content generation.

The results ⚡

🚀 Publish daily AI-powered posts that actually rank

🩵 Manage all your content - blogs, changelogs, docs, newsletters - in one place

⏱ Save hours (or days) of manual writing and SEO setup

Who it’s for 👥

  • Founders who want to grow traffic without writing every post

  • Marketers looking for consistent, SEO-friendly content

  • Startups and local businesses that want plug-and-play blogging

  • Or anyone who wants a clean, open source platform to host content

I’ve learned a lot building this - from over-engineering early versions to simplifying the core. If anyone’s working on AI + SEO or building open source tools, I’d love to chat and share what worked (and what didn’t).

Thanks for reading and supporting 🙏

I'm thinking of launching on Product Hunt (if i ever get any stars or traction lol). I was wondering did you just use your product to build hype and maintain it? Another service? This looks fantastic, Dan! huge congrats on the launch! 🎉

I’m building a product myself and have been looking for better ways to handle content and SEO without juggling multiple tools.

BlogBowl’s AI + open source combo sounds exactly like something I’d love to try for our marketing. Going to check it out on Product Hunt and GitHub — really inspiring work!
